Allison Krause and Union Station to Play Finale at FunFest

Ok - that cinches it for me. I am going to Funfest this year.

Here is the article from the Loafer....

Eastman concert to feature Krauss, Union Station

Alison Krauss + Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas will perform at the Eastman Concert as part of Fun Fest?s grand finale Saturday, July 26 at 7:45 p.m. at J. Fred Johnson Stadium.

Krauss has numerous hits including ?Forget About It,? ?So Long So Wrong? and ?Now That I?ve Found You.? In addition, she has had songs used in ?Divine Secrets of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood,? ?Twister,? ?Buffy the Vampire Slayer? and ?Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil.?

The soundtrack, ?O Brother, Where Art Thou?,? featured Alison Krauss + Union Station with Dan Tyminski as the singing voice of George Clooney in ?Man of Constant Sorrow.? The group has three songs, ?Down to the River to Pray,? ?Nobody But the Baby? and ?I?ll Fly Away? on the multi-platinum O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, which won both the Grammy and CMA Album of the Year awards in 2001. For a complete listing of the group?s hits, log on to the website, www.alisonkrauss.com.

Alison Krauss + Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas is a collaboration between five musicians. Of the current members, Kingsport native Barry Bales (bass and vocals) has been with the band for eleven years; Ron Block (banjo, guitar, vocals, songwriting) for nine years; Dan Tyminski (guitar, mandolin, vocals, songwriting) for seven years; and the newest member, Jerry Douglas (Dobro, lap steel), for almost four years.

The concert begins at 7:45 p.m., Saturday, July 26 at J. Fred Johnson Stadium. The grand finale of Fun Fest 2003 is the Eastman Chemical Company Fireworks Extravaganza at 10 p.m.

Tickets will be sold at the Fun Fest Store in the Fort Henry Mall beginning June 28. Ticket prices are $5.

The Concert that Never Was

The first report from the concert front was cut short by.....the lack of people. Rock and I went down to see STH (See Through Human). Rock got his usual autographs from the band and then we waited for the people to show up. Of course, we were there early so we had about 2 hrs before the show started. The club was Shakers (formely know as Club Electric) and they had rap/dance music blaring inside so we decided to wait in the parking lot until the music died down and more people arrived (it was literally empty inside). Shakers is downtown Johnson City. Dixieland karoke is within visual and audio distance from the parking lot as is Club 111. We listened to strained singing (if you could call it that) coming out of Dixieland and some good music from two parking lots over at Club 111. I about walked over to Club 111 but decided against it - chalking it up to a place I will have to go some other time. The downtown traffic - both walking and driving - picked up, but still no one at Shakers. Rock and I decided to leave after midnight rolled around and still no patrons. We felt bad for the band (hopefully some late people showed up) but with no one in there, we decided just to move on. Rock had a class in Knoxville to be at early in the am and I just really don't like the venue enough to be there just me - besides, I have decided to try a low carb, high protein diet and beer is off the menu for awhile.

So that was the first report. Not exactly the concert scene we are used to. It was the first time I ever have been somewhere where NOBODY showed up (except us). It is really a shame because I hear they are a pretty decent band. I will catch them one day (Rock had seen them before). We have a whole back log of concert show to talk about here until the next show.

Autograph seekers need to be aware of a toy show in Knoxville later this month. Some good vintage guests. Will have an update of that show soon.
