Recovery

I will be recovering tonight from my grueling week with finals at ETSU. I should be at the downBleed, antiTrust, Solar7, and Downfall show tonight at The Downtown Rafter to blow off some steam....that is if I can stay awake until then 'cause I pulled an all nighter last night to finish a last minute item.

I didn't get a chance to post the shows this week on the main page, but as always, you can check the Concert Calendar Page for all the latest updates to the venues in Johnson City and surrounding cities +regional shows as well.

Hopefully next week I will back on the regular scheme of things - Just in time for Trapt, Smiling Soul, etc... at Rafter from our good friends over at Ansley Roberts.Com.

Have a great weekend and support local music!

GWARMAGEDDON

I just can't get enough GWAR!!!!! I caught the show at MASQUERADE in Atlanta Friday night, setting a new personal record of two Gwar shows in one week. My grand total now stands at six. The set list/guest victims was identical to last week's show at ZIGGY's except for the fact that I could actually see and GOR GOR made a majestic appearance! Thank God for MASQUERADE, an excellent venue indeed. Victims included Osama Bin Laden, Bush, Mike Tyson, John Kerry, the Pope, and two small monsters. Gwar flooded the place with great songs and assorted fluids. ODERUS's parting green piss storm left the first few rows looking like minurature Hulks. I'm a happy Bohab!

PURPLE REIGNED

Here's a bit on the PRINCE show from SKYCRY @ JADED JOURNAL

"...there was no opening act, it was just Prince and his incredibly tight band for the night. The show was excellent. He played several tunes from the new cd, and plenty of the old favorites, including an acoustic version of Little Red Corvette. The audience sang along to I Would Die For You, Seven and Cream as Prince seemed to genuinely enjoy himself on the stage. The show opened with the heavy stuff, then came a musical interlude while Prince left the stage for a bit. He returned to an empty stage and took a seat on a swivel chair, then began to entertain us all with one man performances of his hits along with a cover a Shaka Khan's I Feel For You which was a real crowd pleaser. I was on my feet the entire night, my feet tapping and my body moving in time to the rhythmic beat. Prince covered the gamut, from rock to R&B, from blues to funk, and from heartfelt ballads to sexually charged pop. He had a great time and we all had a great time. The latter third of the show had the band back in full force and several audience members were brought on stage to dance the night away until the end of the show. He only performed one encore, and the song was of course Purple Rain, the audience singing right along with him. While the show was great, Prince only played for two hours. I was expecting three and multiple encores, but that's okay, I have seen one of my favorites doing it live. It was quite an experience..."

Here's the set list for the show

Let's Go Crazy
I Would Die 4 U
When Doves Cry

encore....Purple Rain

The official after party was at Liquid Knoxville. When Prince showed up the DJ started playing Sexy Mother F**ker....and then played Atomic DOG and about 4 other songs. Then Prince was escorted to a private room in the club and was only spotted again 20-30 mins later as he was escorted to his limo under heavy security. The New Power Generation Band hung-out and partied with the crowd......most of the night.

CRUSHED IN THE PIT, NAILED TO THE 'STAGE', I ONLY WISH THAT IT WERE A BIT MORE RAISED

The GWAR show, despite ZIGGY's tiny stage and screwy floor plan, was fantastic as always! The blood rained as hundreds of spectators flailed in ecstasy. Bush, Osama, and the Pope fell to the murderous lust of GWAR. Oderus and company sounded top notch and even unveiled a few new songs amongst the 'tried and true' classics. I left the venue beaten and soaked, the positive after effects of GWAR.

I was however a bit unhappy with ZIGGY's. The club's stage is ridiculously small and low. The spectating area is divided into ascending levels. Had the stage been a reasonable height, this would have been great. However, the low stage made it nearly impossible to see unless you were on the front row of a section. I'm 6'2" and was only three feet from the front of the 'pit'. I could only see the band from the shoulders up...that's ridiculous. Normally, I would've just pushed up to the front, but there was literally no where to push. If ZIGGY's would raise that stage two feet, it would all work much better.

Regardless, GWAR delivered the goods! They will be appearing at MASQUERADE in Atlanta, Ga this Friday night, April 23rd. I've seen them there before and it is a great venue for their show! That stage IS big enough for GOR-GOR. Even more of a bonus, you can actually see!

DIS/LOCATION - the Return of 7M3

AFT Entertainment, Bud True Music, and 95.9 K-Rock present Seven Mary Three on Wednesday, April 14 in Johnson City, TN.

When 7M3's lead singer, Jason Ross, met Jason Pollock while they were both in college (William and Mary). Becoming fast friends they started playing acoustic acts around the small town where their college was located. When they invited Giti Khalsa and Casey Daniel to play with them - Seven Mary Three was born.

Their first album, Churn, that the band paid for themselves sold out all 5,000 copies and featured their first mega hit, "Cumbersome." After "Cumbersome" made it big on radio across the country, the band was signed with Mammoth Records. After signing with Mammoth, the band recorded their "debut" album American Standard and their first massive tour began.

Four Albums later, the band is on the cusped of releasing their 5th album as a signed band (6th counting the indie that started it all) and they are still rocking as hard as they always have. It hasn't always been easy on the band but you couldn't tell it to see them live. Their energy level is still as high as the first time they went on tour. They don't have a big stage show - just a straight forward, in your face, rock and roll show without the explosions. This should be a tremendous show and one not to miss.

Tickets can be purchased at DAD'S CD in Johnson City for $15 in advance and just a little more at the door.

Ticket are on Sale at DAD'S CD for $15 in advance.

Running With Scissors CD Release @ The Otter

Saturday, April 10 will be a night at the Sophisticated Otter you will not want to miss. Running With Scissors will debut their new CD 'Iris on an Idle Hum'.

Straight out of Hokie Country (Blacksburg, Va), RWS has slowly, but steadily been becoming known throughout the entire region. The release of this new CD will only further fuel that popularity as the 1st single,Isis, is already causing a buzz.

Described by their manager Jonathan French as "hyper-electric mix of funk, new metal, and elements," this band found instant success on the college scene. But as their music evolved, so did their audience and has since grown exponentially. Jonathan also said about RWS - "If you're a fan of Tool but don't feel like being depressed, then we're the band to come and see...I always say funky progressive rock."

Running With Scissors is: Aaron Barr-lead vocals and guitar, Dave French-lead guitar, Josh Houser-bass, and Jason Scyphers on drums. The cover is only $2 and will be supported by the band Six Miles After Dark. For those buying RWS new CD, you will also receive a copy of Six Miles After Dark's CD (while supplies last).

See you there
